Amherstville - 1895 & Dutch Oven Cook-Off

"The Laurentians"
will provide music of the era.  Relax and enjoy the entertainment.

Ohio Volunteer Calvary will have set-up camp on the grounds.  Visit and see how these brave men lived while fighting the Civil War General Ulysses Grant (portrayed by Ken Bach) will honor us with a visit.  Take a moment to speak with the General and perhaps have your picture taken with him.

Dutch Oven Cook-Off begins at 12:00 pm with judging at 4:00.  Winners will be announced at 6:00 pm  Watch teams prepare foods cooked in the outdoor Camp Dutch Oven using the fire as the only heat source.  Teams will complete by entering one of four categories:  Bread,  Dessert, Main Dish and Cook's Choice.  A prize will be given in each category.  Cook-off is sponsored by Laurel Run Cooking School and DePalma Insurance & Financial Services

"The Marble Man" will teach Civil War era marble games.  Did you know Abe Lincoln and Robert E. Lee were both marble enthusiasts - as adults!

Shane Carney, Ferrier will demonstrate shoeing a horse.  Miniature horse rides will be available for the children.

Children Games with prizes will offer the child with some old-time games.

Buckeye BBQ owned by David Pierce will provide refreshments.

Penton Motorcycle Museum

The Amherst Historical Society is proud and honored to have the Penton Motorcycle Museum in the Amherst Sandstone Village.  This museum will honor Amherst's famous son - John Penton.  On display will be motorcycles that John Penton helped to develop and sell in the United States.  Watch the newspaper for further information or call KTM Sportmotorcycle at 440-985-5995.

September 24, 2008 General Meeting

Katy Karrick, known as the "Cemetery Lady" takes us for a look inside "The Wade Chapel - a Tiffany Treasure".  Katy represents the Lakeview Cemetery Foundation as an interpretive guide, researcher and historian.  If you have never visited this amazing cemetery, this sample of its treasures will make you want to take the time to visit the cemetery soon.  Refreshments and a social time follows the program - The public is welcome.

Learn all about the player piano from Bill Cutcher who brings to us his power-point program on the "Player Piano".  Refreshments and a social time follows the program - The public is welcome.
